Testing And Certification Of Impact Windows

Impact windows in Fort Lauderdale and other Florida cities are your greatest protection against the disaster caused by hurricane winds. The typical structure of impact windows consists of 2 tempered glasses between which is sandwiched a PVB layer that prevents the glasses from flying in the form of edgy splinters that may cause physical and property loss.

Testing And Certification

Only those impact windows are considered certified who meet the testing specifications of ASTM or American Society for Testing Materials. Homes in Florida have developed in their security aspects with successive phases of storm and hurricane destruction. They are now required to have a proper elevation level from the ground and must also have impact windows for protecting their homes against flying debris, according to the new country building code laws. Hence, impact windows in Florida homes are a necessity according to the Florida Building code.

Be Sure

While purchasing a new impact window when you are on a home renovation project, ask the window dealer to offer you an NOA or Notice of Acceptance that is issued by the Miami Dade County. The NOA document provides you with specific information relating to the materials, parts, dimensions, accessories apart from providing you the installation guidelines.  NOA  certification will also provide you information whether your chosen product has passed the impact resistance test successfully or not.

Missile Test

You will find two types of impact-resistant windows listed in the NOA. One that passes the small test and the other that passes the large missile test. The large missile test consists of firing of a 6 foot long and 9 pound-in-weight wooden lumbar cannon that is fired at the impact window at the speed of 50 feet per second. The large missile test is for the structures that have a size of 30 feet or more. The small missile test consists of firing of 30 roof gravel pieces at a speed of 80 feet per second. This test is for structures that height of below 30 feet.

The NOA certificate is hence the key towards choosing the exclusive and high quality impact windows in Coral Springs and other areas of the US. Choose with some care, efforts and attention so that your dwelling is as safe as a fortress.
